Second meeting of AACOS:
On Sunday, July 6th, 2025, a virtual and in-person meeting was held, including the Executive Office, the Board of Trustees, and the working team, with 17 members in attendance. It was one of the most successful meetings in terms of attendance and discussion. There were contributions from attendees and useful discussions on various topics on the meeting agenda. The following was agreed upon:
The first topic: The yearly free eye treatment campaign by the Vienna Organization, VECP. Will be back after it has been disrupted by the war. All possible arrangements and preparations for it would be carried out by the Projects Department in coordination with the organization’s medical advisor, Dr. Walaa El-Din El-Maazel. The project would be held after obtaining approval and securing funding from the Austrian Organization, which will be undertaken by Mr Hassan Kanouri.
The second topic: The Grand Mosque Water Supply Project. A comprehensive briefing was provided by Al-Fateh Majzoub and Awad Al-Baqer. After extensive discussion, and given the difficulty of digging a well inside the mosque due to the rocky terrain, it was agreed that water would be supplied from the main 4-inch high-pressure line from Al-Dakatra Street, instead of the current 1-inch connection from the secondary line. A large tank will also be added to increase the volume of water stored inside the mosque. This will be done in coordination with the Water Authority and a cost study will be conducted.
Hamida and Saad pledged to work to find a single funder or group for the mosque’s watering project.
The third topic, concerns the Eye Centre, where the Project Manager reviewed the status of the building work and proposed that efforts be made to secure the necessary funding to at least complete the ground floor ceiling so that we can complete the construction of the walls and finishing work, to enable the centre to operate at a minimum (ground floor). An oral report was also submitted by Mr. Al-Fateh Majzoub regarding the meeting that took place between him and the Minister of Health of Sennar State based on the Minister’s request and what the Minister had proposed regarding the Ministry’s relationship with the Eye Centre in the future and what kind of support the Ministry could provide to complete the building, and the common vision for its operation and maintenance after completion. Extensive discussions took place and the meeting concluded that the head of the organization and the legal office would study the legal situation and submit a report on that. It was also decided to form a special committee to, activate and mobilize financial support to complete the Centre headed by Kawther Ahmed Al-Obeid and membership of Taqwa Omar, Hassan Kanuri, Saad and Laila Al-Amin, the Projects Director, and the head of the organization. It was agreed to move quickly to print the project booklet including the cost and the overall vision for the project and to contact some of the supporting bodies such as the SAPA Organization of Sudanese Americans Physicians Associations.
Meeting closed at 8:30 followed by dinner invitation to those attended the physical meeting by Mr Saad … Thank you Saad.
