Who we are
Al-Hawash Al-Kabeer Charity Organization established in 2014 with the aim of developing the education and health environment for primary and secondary schools in Sennar City located in South-South East Sudan. The Organization took the initiative to conduct comprehensive surveys of these schools in Sennar City. Following these activities, we concluded that these schools, which were built in the 1950s and sixties of the last century, had never done or initiated any rehabilitations, upkeep or refurbishments. The buildings and the atmosphere poses a danger to the lives of the pupils, lacking all components of the educational environment. The organization immediately began rehabilitation movements by strengthening the buildings and reconstructing some of them, which achieved successfully. Part of the activities have also be extended to providing educational aid, construction of sports fields, construction of a school theater for cultural activities, gardening, provision of meals and healthy drinking water services.
The organization has also had a partnership for 5 years with Vienna Eye Care Partners stipulated in the signed Memorandum of Understanding to set up treatment camps in Sennar City. The protocol of the MoU began in 2018 and the first treatment camp held in January 2019; the second treatment camp is expected for February 2020.
As education is a basic human right and the basis for inclusive society, the organization has started to set its goals and priorities to saving the dilapidated buildings of 12 schools (7 primary and 5 secondary) according to a long-term plan that includes the rehabilitation of one school each year according to the available resources.
The first in 2015 is a primary school for girls established in 1954. The organization has fully rehabilitated it and continued to work in 2016 on the rehabilitation of another secondary school for girls. Followed thereafter by the model secondary school for girls in 2017 and in 2018 began for the first time the reconstruction of the primary school for boys. The project took a period of two years. The buildings have now been finished and we hope it will be completed and reopened towards the end of 2019.
The organization mobilizes its funds from its members the residents of Sennar city and Sennaries in the diaspora who possess the lion share of the total financial contributions. The organization usually presents and communicates the project documents through social media. As soon as the project is presented, there is usually very high momentum, which generates in-kind contributions, financial commitments and volunteers, for the organization.
Al-Hawash Al-Kabeer Charity does not pay any salaries or relevant administrative expenses for its management because, the work is voluntary and this is what distinguishes it and highlights its remarkable achievements.
